dc.description.abstract Groundwater extraction provides an important source of water supply. However, human development has been causing major pressures over the aquifers, requiring the identification and monitoring of both water quantity and quality, in order to define management strategies directed to protect water resources. The paper presents a general overview of groundwater monitoring techniques and a summary of sampling procedures, as a result of a joint collaboration between the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering in Lisbon and Research Institute for Electrical Engineering Bucharest, during the common activity developed in the European FP 6 project, Marie Curie ToK – IAP: KnowEnTech, MTKI-CT-2005-029758. pt_BR
