An update to the survey of failures of bridge falsework systems since 1970

Abstract

Bridge falsework systems are used to support the formwork during the construction of concrete bridges. Relevant stakeholders often do not consider them as important as permanent structures, and in recent years a high number of accidents involving bridge falsework systems have been reported. In this paper, a survey of the failures of bridge falsework systems since 1970 is presented, including an update to the information already published, covering the period between 1970 and 2012, with new data from the period between 2013 and 2015. The collected data provides useful statistics for risk assessments when considering the potential consequences associated with failures of bridge falsework systems.
