Abstract:
A programme of laboratory tests has been undertaken to investigate the change in permeability of clayey soils due to exposure of saline solutions. Remoulded samples of commercially available kaolinite and of a natural soil, occurring at the base of Coimbra sanitary landfill, were prepared using distilled deaired water and salt solutions at varying concentrations. The permeability tests were performed in consolidated samples using a reducing head permeameter. The results showed no significant changes in permeability due to the increase of the chemical solutions concentration.
