Abstract:
A sanitary landfill for municipal solid waste (MSW), generated in the Seixal and Almada municipalities, has been constructed. It is being developed in phases, covering an area of 14 ha, which will serve the region sufficiently for about 11 years. This paper describes some considerations on the liner system,and presents the main aspects related to the design and operation of the sanitary landfill.
