Windows are an essential element of façades providing building identity. Windows are
also an important element for occupant’s wellbeing and to decrease energy demand
for heating, cooling ventilation and lighting. The recent development of material and
technological process changed the shape, size and functionality of windows. This
article describe the windows main characteristics from a Lisbon Palace, presenting
their technological solutions, performance and heritage value for sustainable
